Observations on “Madame Monet and Her Son”

Written Summer of 2025

I gaze at Madame Monet, And I must confess

I'm jealous

For where she meets her husband's gaze

Is something that leaves me astonished.

Can a man have such revere for his wife,

That he doesn't mind sitting lower

So that she can rise up?

I don't know the history between Madame and Monet.

All I need to know is painted on that canvas.

Monet's canvas captured

The perfect love experienced in that

Moment.

His gaze focuses on her face,

Her hair, her essence, all while

She turns back to look at him.

Just look at her dress,

The feminine frills

Altered by the breeze.

We can still see her face,

Though it is covered by

The tilt of her head and the clouds

Why must Monet cover part of her face?

He needed to keep something

Just for himself.

We mustn't forget her son,

Watching his parents from afar

I wonder what he is thinking?

Though far away,

You can tell he is blushing.

Lucky he is to be

The son of such a

Lovely lady.

Some people reduce this painting down to

"Woman with Her Parasol"

And they miss the point.

The capturing of this moment is romantic,

Monet's vantage point must not be reduced

To a statement of the obvious.

Madame Monet and Her Son

Existed in this moment

Monet's canvased kiss.
