Eulogy for My Broken

Written April 14, 2025

What do you think when you look at me?

Am I only talkative, do I have a fair face,

Does my presence fill your heart with glee?

I cannot ask, for it is not the time or place.

When our eyes meet, I feel a great many things,

Excitement flows through my mind at hyper speed,

I am left speechless.

When you smile, hope springs.

I yearn to learn more about you; yet feelings mislead.

When I talk, you want quiet, when you talk, I grow shy,

I suspect you think my conversation is a waste of time...

Do my insecure observations tell the truth, or do they lie?

In my tears I realize it is not you, but it is I who is sublime.

So, go ahead, look at me, tell me what you find.

For I know my value, even if to me you are blind.

Though I confess, I was blind too.

Desperate for any bread crumbs of affection I could find.

I placed you on a pedestal too high for any man to climb,

And I chose to ignore the red flags

That still fly.

Here is the Eulogy for my once broken heart,

That I didn’t think twice to tear apart.

I no longer blame you for being honest about who you are.

For it was I who misread the signs.

But now I think it is time to say goodbye

to guilt and shame that once consumed me,

And live free with a whole heart,

Unabashedly and entirely lovely.
