Enchanted April

There’s a difference between watching a movie and enjoying a film, just as there is a difference between eating sugar for energy and savoring a dessert. “Enchanted April” is a dessert for the soul — full of whimsy, calmness, and the miracle of dreams coming true. The story starts with two discontent women serendipitously coming across the same ad in a 1920’s English newspaper. Need I say more? No, I can’t say more about the plot because I don’t want to spoil ANYTHING! However, I will say this:
This one simple newspaper ad awakens a dream in each woman, a dream that invites others to join in and it restores hope to each of their souls. Their dreams originally seem impossible, but gradually things come together. Their dreams become possible, and eventually come true. That is an incredible notion. Truly.
Is it just me, or have we as a society forgotten how to be bold, brave, and not only dream big, but actually believe our dreams can come true?
I’ve watched this film countless times in the last year! I turn on this film when I’m tired, want to relax, and need a refresher on the whimsical nature of life and God’s miraculous character. This film does not talk about God, but every time I watch this, I am reminded of how good God is and the way He has made the impossible become possible in my life. I’m also reminded of how God’s beauty can shine through the little things — the warmth of the sun, a light breeze, a smile, unlikely friendships, and the loveliness of gardens and seasides. These are the things we often take for granted, but “Enchanted April” reminds us of how restorative these God given gifts are! Ah restoration and relaxation, what wonders these can do for our overstimulated souls, minds, and lives!
Take a moment of pause. Close yours eyes. Reflect on your dreams, secret hopes, and innermost desires. Take a deep breath, and remind yourself that life is full of possibility, and that hopes and prayers can be fulfilled each day! Make a conscious decision to believe that lovely things can and will happen in your life.
When you’re ready, open your eyes, grab your remote, and watch “Enchanted April”.
