Chef

A few years back, I was scrolling on Netflix and came across this film and was intrigued by its title. I gave it a shot and found myself laughing, inspired, genuinely moved, and most of all…HUNGRY.

This film introduced my family and I to cubano sandwiches. Just as good people don’t spoil the ends of movies for anyone, they don’t reveal the ingredients to cubanos to anyone who hasn’t seen “Chef” first. If you haven’t heard of or had a these glorious sandwiches before, I encourage you to watch this film before trying one. However, for anyone who knows about the wonders of the cubano and/or has seen Chef before, I will tell you that good cubanos can be found at the Arepas food truck in Olympia or the McMenamins Olympic Club in Centralia. Both can be made gluten free too! There are more recipes featured in this film, and all of them are guaranteed to make you drool and make you feel inspired to cook and add variety to your daily meals.

“Chef” appeals to more than just the beauties of cooking and eating. This script is really well written and discusses a lot of different dynamics in human relationships with just the right kind of humor and lots of heart. The actors were perfectly cast, and each one adds flavor to this film. Also, there are tons of famous faces in this film which is always an indicator to me that this must be a great film.

Another thing I enjoy about this film is it’s soundtrack! The music in this film sets the tone and matches the bright color schemes. Plus, I loved the fact that this soundtrack introduced me to songs and artists I never knew before, and a whole genre of music which I love now.

By now you’ve probably noticed that I typically say the films I review have great cinematography. Thats equally true for Chef, but what differentiates this film is how clever the cinematography is. I don’t want to reveal any spoilers, but the cinematography itself displays emotions well and tells a great story. Oh and it makes you hungry of course as it makes everything look delicious!
