Okay I lied in my last review. I love both versions, but this will always be my favorite. Perhaps I am biased because I grew up with this. Also, Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid always reminded me of my parents. The film itself reminds me of my sister.
Out of curiosity, did anyone else try to pull off a parent trap and try to trade places with a friend growing up? Shoutout to Hailey and to my mom for knowing what we were doing, and playing along for as long as she could
What I love about this film: everything. Nancy Meyers is one of my favorite film writers and directors, and she enhanced this story. I love the iconic soundtrack, Annie’s wardrobe (that I still want), the acting, the humor, the cinematography, and all the love. Natasha Richardson was the definition of elegance, class, and loveliness
Here are facts provided by IMDB:
- The twins in this version are named after the daughters of director Nancy Meyers' and her husband, producer Charles Shyer. Their two daughters have small parts in the movie. Hallie plays a girl at camp at the beginning who asks where the Navajo bunk is, and Annie plays the towel girl at the hotel who brings Elizabeth the first aid kit.
- Lindsay Lohan hums “Let’s Get Together” at one point in the movie. This is a reference to the 1961 version.
- In casting the dual role of twins Hallie and Annie, director Nancy Meyers kept saying, "I'm looking for a little Diane Keaton... Diane is so alive on screen and that's what I wanted from the actress in these parts."
- During the 'booby-trapped cabin' scene where the water balloon is dropped onto Annie's head, a thumbtack was fastened into Lindsay Lohan's Hair so the balloon would pop before actually hitting her. The balloon was so heavy that simply dropping it on her head could have caused serious neck injuries and not popped the balloon.
- The name Meredith Blake is a reference to a male character in "Five Little Pigs", a story written by Agatha Christie.
- According to Lisa Ann Walter, Disney would provide a really nice dinner on Fridays. At one of the dinners, they served lobster.
