Romancing the Stone

Ah, where to begin!

If you haven’t seen this film by now, you need to stop whatever your doing and watch it! Call in sick if you have to, it’s worth it! This classic has been loved by my family for a long time. In fact, it is so beloved that it has been an inspiration for many other films including “The Lost City” (which I know Grandma would have loved).

Here is why I think Grandma loved this film: She had a sense of adventure paired with a great imagination. From the stories I’ve heard from others, she was reader and someone could spend lots of time talking about hidden treasure. Also, as previously established, Grandma was a romantic. Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner really have strong chemistry in this film.

Random thought: why isn’t romantic adventure a normal film genre like rom com is? Romantic adventures are some of the best films, and Grandma would stand with me on that.

Here’s why I love this movie: Kathleen Turner’s character reminds me of … me. My room is decorated with antiques, I’m a romantic, I spoil my pet, I have a vivid imagination, and I have travel fears with a sensitive stomach. Along with that, I too can be quite awkward, and at times an embarrassing tourist. Oh, and I am not AT ALL outdoorsy. I would like to think that if I were placed in her shoes, my sister were kidnapped by a jewel thief, I would face my fears and save my sister. With all those things being said, I love the fact that this film has a love story where a girl like me can have an adventure and fall in love.

What makes this film so great is that it brings imagination to life, and shows us what it’s really like to live in a romance novel or wildest daydream. Everything about this film is fantastic with the humor, acting, scenery, and all.
