La Boda de Rosa

This film goes beyond Valentines Day, Galentines Day, or the notion of “treating yourself”. La Boda de Rosa in Spanish means Rosa’s Wedding, and it is a wedding no one expects and is full of love. If anyone is still experiencing the Valentine’s Day blues, watch this…it will make you feel so much better.

Rosa does all the traditional things at her wedding: she has a flower arch, writes her own vows, throws the bouquet, puts a ring on it. Along with tradition, Rosa has the ultimate dream:/Pinterest goals wedding taking place on the gorgeous beach of Benicàssim, Spain while wearing one of the most magical dresses I’ve ever seen on film. This film describes one of the greatest romances we have the opportunity of embarking on if we are brave enough: the romance we can have with ourselves. In La Boda de Rosa, Rosa marries herself.

If you’re confused, it’s okay because Rosa’s family was too! However, reread the things I just shared above and think about making a vow to love yourself and follow your dreams in front of your family…it’s truly beautiful, brave, and lovely notion. In marrying herself, she doesn’t completely shut the door to all other romance in her life (she still has a boyfriend), but she chooses after years of obedience and hard labor for her family to love herself first and set boundaries. There is something admirable in that. The notion isn’t selfish or self indulgent at all, but liberating and the exact thing Rosa needed in order to move forward in her life, follow her dreams, and be able to love others better by taking care of herself first.

I cannot explain more without giving away the plot, but if you aren’t intrigued by this plot, be intrigued by the beautiful cinematography, bright and warm lighting and color scheme, the beauty of the Spanish language, and the idea of watching a film unlike any other.
