Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner

Alright, I’ll let YOU “guess who”! Need a hint? Three of them were Academy Award winners, one of them being the 2nd African American to win an Academy Award (for Lillies of the Field). I think we should join this dinner!

From what I’ve heard, the conversation at this dinner is great too— or, at least it was very important to its era. In 1967, interracial love was controversial and uncommon, and this film was made toward the end of the civil rights movement. It captures the intensity of that era, the questions and concerns people had, and how dangerous interracial marriage was at that point. In a sense, I would call this a historical document that displays the social dynamics with great accuracy. Also, how complicated it can be to stand up for what is right. In this way, this dinner provides a lot of food for thought!

Everything in this meal was perfectly done and has no flaws. The story has aged like a fine wine — it remains relevant, enjoyable, and brings the best conversation topics!

This film is an important contribution to #blackhistory. Don’t just “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, show up and see what happens! You won’t regret it!
