Tacoma Little Theatre’s “One Man Two Guvnors”

A screwball comedy to its core, “One Man, Two Guvnors” was an entirely chaotic show and charming in its own right. There was a ton of suggestive humor, and it was delivered in a way that caught my laughter.
This comedy is not in my typical tastes, but I was excited to attend the show so I could explore performances beyond my tastes and expand my palate. Here were some of my favorite delicious moments from the show:
1). The moments where the main character interacted with the audience and even made them part of the show. Watching the chosen audience members’ reactions made me laugh the hardest.
2). They had a band that played before the show and in between scenes that had the exact early rock and roll, 1960s British vibe. I don’t typically enjoy that style of music, but the performers were talented and I was drawn to their music. Watching them sing was just so much fun! Some members of the cast joined the band for some songs and did little hilarious things. More on that later.
3). There was a lot of physical humor with people falling, messing around with food, and everything else. It was incredibly cheesy, but some scenes were very well executed and hilarious.
My favorite moment from the show was when the cast’s most campy member joined the band. He came out in leather pants and jacket (no shirt underneath). His dancing was purposely ridiculous. It brought all the same dance moves and same energy my mom brings to my sister and I in her annual “performance” to Sting’s Christmas song, “Soul Cake.” He slowly took off his jacket and eventually used his stomach flab as a drum, and somehow was musically in sync. I sometimes drum my stomach as means of grossing out my sister and making myself laugh, his performance inspired me to go big or go home in the future.
Overall, I’m really glad I went. I had a good laugh, tried something new, and ultimately got out of the house and made friendly conversation with strangers before the show. I’m so glad that I subscribed to the @tacomalittletheatre and can’t wait for Mousetrap in October!
