This performance humbled me tonight in the best ways. Let me explain:

Humbling #1: I pride myself in being someone who doesn’t “whoop” after classical performances because I have always felt it was improper in those specific situations. I whoop in other types of concerts. Then tonight, after the most incredible performance, a whoop left my body without my consent…in other words, they were THAT good. I had medium high expectations going into tonight, and both quartets skyrocketed past my expectations.

Humbling #2: Prior to the performance, I was chatting (and okay maybe flirting a little bit) with a guy in the audience. I don’t even remember how this conversation came up, but we started talking about classical composers and I told him how I thought Mozart was a little overplayed and overrated, but how Bach is played a lot but will never be overrated. He totally agreed with me on this which was nice. Then one of the quartets played a Mozart piece I had never heard before and I found it so refreshing and enjoyable. So I must say, I stand corrected and I’m sorry Amadeus for saying you were overrated.

Humbling #3 (the best humbling of all): it is genuinely rare to listen to music that is so enchanting and played so beautifully that it reminds you of how magnificent God is for creating music and musicians. This kind of humbling is empowering and fills your heart with gratitude, and it was just what I needed.

I must say, I really appreciate the camaraderie amongst the performers and how in sync they were with one another! Some moments felt like they were chatting with one another using their instruments, and other times felt like they were singing duets to one another. I also loved watching their facial expressions and body movements — they really added something special to the performance. There was some fabulous things happening with people’s eyebrows and I couldn’t take my eyes off of the eyebrow action.

I loved every minute of tonight! Huge shoutout to my friend for inviting me — this was SUCH A TREAT!
