5th Avenue Theatre’s “Clue”

This wasn’t the kind of show that was deeply compelling or gave me lots of things to reflect on, but I did really enjoy myself. Let me explain:
Never have I ever witnessed an audience so into a show! There were consistent roars of laughter, the applause was the loudest I’ve ever witnessed, and the audience was quoting the lines as they were happening (which the knew because this play was a redoing of the 80’s movie). The audience felt like a community somehow so full of camaraderie and likemindedness. Even in moments that wouldn’t typically make me laugh out loud, I couldn’t help but join the roars of laughter in the audience.
Just like the Tim Curry movie, this play was incredibly cheesy and corny, yet very enjoyable and lovable. The way the characters fake ran on stage was hilarious, and so was the way they generally delivered their lines!
The best part of the production was the set design that had room sized pieces moving in and out from different spaces that looked like different rooms from the original board game! It was stunning to behold!
Whether through story, laughter, or setting, this play helped me escape reality for a bit and escape into a world of mystery, humor and nostalgia, and for that I am beyond grateful!
