The African Queen

Okay, I’m breaking away from the Best Picture category for a more than worthy cause. Humphrey Bogart won an academy award for best actor for this film in 1952, and he deserved it in almost every way (more on that later). There is truly no better film to watch on sunny and warm days like today! Many will say that this film reminds them of the “Jungle Cruise” ride and movie, and that is very intentional.
Walt Disney loved this film, so much so that it was the LITERAL INSPIRATION for the ride! The Jungle Cruise film pays almost more tribute to The African queen than the Disneyland ride. I won’t share all the similarities, but some of my favorites include wardrobe (especially in the men), the boat itself, and the romance.
Speaking of the romance, I’m always surprised by the good chemistry between Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart. Also, Humphrey Bogart taps into his silly side for this film, and it is both surprising and refreshing.
Everything in this film is perfect: the cinematography, the script, and the balance between action and dialogue.
