Oo-de-Lally Oo-de-lally golly what a film!
This is without a doubt one of the most underrated and often forgotten Disney films. Everything about it is perfect: the color scheme, animation style, script, and the BEST SOUNDTRACK! I’m not kidding, it truly has a fantastic soundtrack with songs that are always in my head and make onto every Disney playlist I create. Am I trying to say that Allan-a-Dale (the Rooster) is best thing about this film? Maybe.
There is something very delightfully nostalgic about this film. The ironic part is, this wasn’t one of the Disney films I watched a million times as a kid. I didn’t actually appreciate this film until I was an adult (I know, I’m weird). The nostalgia comes from a familiarity with heart warming, simple cartoons and story telling methods that can only be the product of earlier generations. I’m also curious if anyone else gets Mary Poppins vibes during some moments of this film?
This is an amazing film and gets, and there are many reasons to love this film that are fairly well known. I’m honestly surprised there was never a Disneyland ride based on this cartoon. Wouldn’t it be fun? Like a slow ride in fantasyland! I can picture it!
To be honest, I don’t know how to end this review so to shake things up, let me share some interesting facts (provided by IMDB):
-The last Disney animated movie that all of Disney's Nine Old Men would live to see completed.
-Originally, Friar Tuck was to be a pig, but was changed to a badger to avoid insulting religious sensibilities.
-The characters of the Sheriff of Nottingham, Friar Tuck, Nutsy, and Trigger were all voiced by actors known for doing westerns. This is because at one point in the production, the setting was the Old West.
