Hairspray

Someone asked me the other day what some of my favorite movies were. In that moment, my mind went blank. I mentioned the timeless favorite “Sleepless in Seattle”, yet I forgot all about the other film that is timeless to me. I will never forget the day back in 2007 when my mom dropped my sister and I off at the theater for our sister date to see this film. Let me just say, I knew Zac Efron was cute from High School Musical, but when he became Link Larkin, it was love at first sight for me, and I knew a life without love would be bleak. As a fourth grader, I just knew Link and I would end up together one day… I can hear the bells. After all, he is the nicest kid in town, or at the very least, the ladies choice.

Okay I’m done with the puns…for now, but if it happens again, you can’t stop the beat. Anyways, this version of Hairspray is my favorite and ALWAYS makes me happy. This was one of the first musicals I watched as a child (outside of Disney) and it was a real life changer. How could it not be with such a brilliant cast, the best soundtrack, and the best color scheme in all of film?

This is a great film to celebrate #womenshistorymonth because it shows how any woman, no matter what age, race, body type, or set of talents can fall in love and be a world changer at the same time. Does it get more empowering? All we have to do is fight against all of the Miss Baltimore Crabs in this world. It shouldn’t be too hard, all we have to do is run and tell that.

This movie holds a special place in my heart, and has been there for me in the best and most challenging seasons.

With that, and the fact that this film is quite literally flawless
